A non-traditional approach to concerto writing, this work is in one extended movement and includes wordless choir of voices as members of the orchestral ensemble (as in Holst’s "Planets", Debussy’s "Nocturnes", and Ravel’s "Daphnis et Chloe"). Intimate chamber-like passages alternate with rhythmically driving ones fraught with nervous energy. A lengthy fugue is the culmination of one such rhythmic passage. But overall the atmosphere is whimsical and capricious, gently caressing the listener into daydream imaginings.
